I was poking around in the town's pawn shops and found an Olds Ambassador Cornet. I am very new to cornets, I've only played a few before. It played quite well (I didn't like the mouthpiece though, far too narrow of a rim) and had very few dings on it.
The lacquer was is very good shape, but I noticed that the lead pipe had been re-attached. The serial number was 368 006, but I have no idea what that means. The asking price was $170 to $225. Would it be worth it? It's hard to say whether it qualifies or not without looking at it. Also, different vintages of Olds tend to be better. Los Angeles - probably most sought after. Early Fullerton - early to mid 60's - good horns. Late Fullerton - 70's to the end - sometimes good sometimes not great. Look up the serial number, since you provided it.
Google is a good place to try. The Olds Central site will give you loads on information. Serial numbers. So, it looks like it's early 60's from my calculations. An ugly Ambassador trumpet (not much lacquer) but structurally fine should go for about $80-140.

A Trumpet with nice lacquer and decent vintage (not 70's) would go for a bit more. Trumpet tend to sell for more than cornets, in my observations - so a cornet should be a little cheaper. I don't know about the leadpipe without seeing it, you'll have to judge, but I'd say a fair price is on the $170 side rather than the $225 side.
